Initial Evaluation

The initial evaluation is structured in two parts to ensure a comprehensive understanding of your or your child’s needs. The first phase consists of a Telehealth session, during which Dr. Paik gathers an in-depth history through conversation with the patient or parents, and observes the patient in their natural home environment through the virtual encounter. Based on clinical appropriateness and safety considerations, a second in-person appointment will be arranged. This visit allows for direct engagement with the patient and concludes with a detailed discussion of diagnostic impressions, treatment recommendations, and educational guidance.

Follow-Up Care

Following the initial evaluation, eligible patients will be offered follow-up appointments. These visits encompass direct clinical care as well as proactive, coordinated collaboration with other professionals involved in the patient’s support network — including other physicians, psychotherapists, and educators.

Single Case Consultation

Dr. Paik offers single case consultations, commonly referred to as "second opinions." These consultations are often sought by patients and parents who are already working with a psychiatrist but would like an additional perspective or subspecialty expertise. Dr. Paik has extensive experience providing second opinions and welcomes referrals from both patients and families, as well as from treating psychiatrists. The most common requests sent to Dr. Paik include for the psychiatric care of children and adults with neurological illness, chronic medical conditions, or neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. Paik also frequently consults on cases involving Down syndrome Regression Disorder (DSRD) and catatonia.

Our Philosophy of Care

At Pia Neuropsychiatry, appointments are intentionally longer than those typically offered in conventional psychiatric settings. This extended time reflects Dr. Paik’s unwavering commitment to understanding the full spectrum of each child’s medical, developmental, and social history. She listens attentively, meets families with empathy, and works diligently to earn each child’s trust. Parent education is a cornerstone of her approach, and she integrates elements of supportive psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and positive psychology throughout the appointments.

A Hybrid Model for Holistic Care

Dr. Paik offers a hybrid care model that blends in-person and telehealth visits. This flexible approach is particularly well-suited to the dynamic nature of child and developmental psychiatry. Through years of experience, Dr. Paik has found that this model enhances safety, strengthens the therapeutic alliance, and supports the practical needs of families.
